Big Boy in California!

Everybody knows that when we are close to home we start looking for a Frisch's Big Boy. It is one of those hometown things that you can't explain to somebody from the "outside." It is probably not the greatest food in the world but it's OUR food. It's where families and young folks went to eat after church all of our lives. You know what I mean?

We were almost to Morro Bay the other day when we saw a Big Boy billboard just as pretty as you please. It was for Bob's Big Boy! Years ago there were Big Boy franchises by several different names. Frisch's, Shoney's, Kip's and Bob's are just a few of the many names Big Boy flew under.

Most dropped the Big Boy banner over the years but evidently Bob's Big Boy has been going strong in southern California and opened this store in Morro Bay last year. We had to try it out.

We had been to Kip's 20 years ago in Texas so we knew that some places put thousand island on the Big Boy sandwich in place of tartar sauce so we asked about that. They actually make it three different ways here. This is what they called each style of Big Boy.
1. Ohio style: Tartar Sauce
2. Michigan style: Thousand Island
3. California style: Red Relish & Mayo

KJ & Odie had the Ohio style of course but I stepped out on the wild side and ordered it California style. It was actually quite good. The salad bar was similar, the fries were crispier with a little of the potato skin left on them and they did not have crushed ice which is mandatory for Frisch's. Also the Big Boy outside didn't have tartar sauce dripping off the hamburger and his shoes were turquoise instead of black and white.

One other thing that my brother Steve and his family will be glad to know. Odie ordered vanilla Coke and the waitress said, "Would vanilla Pepsi be ok?". A Big Boy with Pepsi products? Wow! Now that is different!

We enjoyed our visit and the food. It really made us anxious to get back home!

That's the food report for the day.

Odie's View From The Back
I want to start off by telling you something exciting we have coming up. Friday night October 15th, 2010 we are planning to record a live CD. It is set to take place in Riverdale, California at Riverdale Assembly.
We have the privilege to work with some talented folks on this project. Bro. Chuck Spencer will be handling the responsibility of recording and playing the drums. Bro. Dale Spencer will be playing bass for us. Mom is going to play the piano for this one. She is very apprehensive but I know she will do an excellent job!!! Others will be involved too. We are not completely sure of every detail yet. Stay tuned to www.boggsblogs.com for all the latest information.
Recording live is a whole new adventure for our family. We are very excited and very nervous so we covet your prayers on this matter!!
Some of our friends from across the country are planning to join us that night. We would love to have all of you there!!! If you would like information about nearest airports and hotels give us a call!
Now let me catch you up on all the happenings since the last time we wrote. I enjoyed visiting with my family in Ohio tremendously! Many events of those weeks I will not soon forget. Thanks to all of you for putting up with me hanging around!
Being home gave me a chance to be at my home church a little more. We have an awesome Pastor, Bro. Bennie Sutherland, and church family at Dryden Road!!
Mom and Dad enjoyed finishing their stay in Montana and making the drive to California. Our family was reunited August 17th for Dryden Road meeting
God visited us with His Spirit at campmeeting. It was a wonderful meeting! Bro. Dwain Galiher and Bro. Kevin Webster both delivered messages from Heaven!!!
After campmeeting it was time to get in the saddle again. We visited Pastor Randy Brown and congregation in Sharonville, Ohio. It was a great faith building service.
It was also good to be with Pastor Lloyd and Dodds Pentecostal Church for Homecoming 2010.
Next we all took wings and flew to California. It was so good to see the BoggsMobile and my little bunk that I call home...
Our fall revivals started at Amazing Grace Tabernacle in Atwater, California. Pastor Jared Burris and the church have been our friends for a long time! It is always encouraging to see your friends being revived! God definitely smiled on us with a Holy Ghost visitation!
From Atwater we journeyed to Fresno, California. The folks at Souls Harbor Holiness church befriended us on our first California trip in 1992. The Lord has brought Pastor Anthony Munoz and congregation a long way in 18 years! Pastor Munoz has had a health battle but we serve a faithful God and he is doing well. It was great to be in revival with them and behold God’s blessings.
We were also invited by Riverdale Christian Academy to preach a school revival. RCA is an awesome Christian school! In revival we were challenged to surrender all to God. And we were reminded of the need of His power in our lives. Because we were placed here “For such a time as this.” It was great to see students and staff alike surrendering to God and seeking more of Him!!
It had been awhile since we were with our friends at Gospel Defenders in Merced, California. Pastor Johnny Hilton and everyone welcomed us with open arms. It was so good to be with them again.
We were able to be in some of the fellowship meeting at Victory Holiness Church in Hanford, California. We enjoyed being with many of our friends there.
Pastor Doug Spencer invited us to be in service with them at Avenal Assembly in Avenal, California. We had a wonderful service there. Dad has yet to preach at Avenal . They won’t let us past the singing! We sure enjoyed the presence of the Lord and the great fellowship.
Well, I hear the engine starting so I better go ‘cause we’re On the Road Again.

Kelly Jo & A California Celebrity

It has been a while since we posted any pictures of Kelly Jo and a celebrity. One reason is that she has been trying to keep a low profile. There are so many celebrities and wannabes out here on the left coast with paparazzi taking pictures all the time. Kelly Jo doesn't want to draw attention to herself so she has been avoiding posing for pictures with genuine famous people.

However she could not resist a picture with the World's Largest Dancing Raisin. He hails from Selma, California and we saw him in the Spike & Rail Restaurant there. KJ said he was sweet as could be even if his humor was a little dry.

Until next time...

Hanford Fellowship Meeting

As you can see I have a new app on my phone that makes a collage. I'm practicing on you. These are pictures of the Hanford meeting.

This week we have attended four out of the five services of the Hanford Fellowship meeting. It was good to see the folks from Victory Holiness in Hanford and from the fellowshipping churches as well. Bro. Rocky Kirk from Ohio preached the nights, Bro. Doug Cornett from Ohio preached the days and I preached a morning myself. I would say they have had enough Ohio preaching to do them for a while.

On our first trip out here in 1992 I preached one night of the Hanford meeting and a revival too. Bro. Garmen was the Pastor then and he and his family have sure been our friends in the years since. It was great to be a part of the meeting again.

We are working on getting a newsletter out tomorrow so I will try to post it here as well. God bless.

More About Raisins!

A little more about Raisins if you please. Yesterday we stopped at the Sun-Maid factory store. It is a fascinating place. We learned a bunch about their history and the making of Raisins. The pictures are of the boxes of Sun-Maid raisins through the years and the worlds largest raisin box which is displayed outside. It is twelve foot tall and held 16,500 pounds of raisins when it was built.

We read in a brochure that the grapes lay in the sun two to three weeks before they are rolled into bundles. They remain in the bundles several more days before they are taken out of the field to the processing plant. They said that four pounds of fresh grapes yield about one pound of raisins.

We also read that 95% of the raisins produced in California are made from Thompson seedless grapes grown in the San Joaquin Valley. All I have to do is look around at all the fields of grapes and I believe it.

We also bought some different varieties of dried fruit that they produce in the plant. My favorite is the Dark Chocolate Yogurt Raisins. Wow! Those are good! Well, so much for raisins. I think I'll have another handful.

Raisins & More Raisins!

It was September the very first time we came to California in 1992. The raisins caught our attention on that first trip. As I mentioned in a previous post our first revival here was in Raisin City. It is called Raisin City for a very good reason. There are fields of grapes for miles and miles and miles around. It is absolutely amazing. It is beautiful to see the fields go on for miles. At this time of year they begin harvesting the grapes to be made into raisins. Have you every wondered why the world's favorite brand of raisins is called Sun-Maid?

Well, here is the reason....

They pick the grapes and then lay them on brown paper right out in the field to dry for several days...

Oodles and oodles of grapes laying out in the sun to dry as far as the eye can see in every direction. They are literally made by the Sun. Then they wrap the brown paper around the raisins and make bundles and leave them in the field for a certain period of days before taking them to the plant for processing. There are fields right now that have the bundles but we weren't able to get a good picture.

Isn't that amazing? I don't know how they keep the birds and bugs from eating all the profits or how they sell them so cheap when it is so labor intensive. I do know one thing, every time we drive by a field it flings a craving for Sun-Maid Raisins all over me! Good thing they are cheap.

We fed Odie too many raisins one day when she was two years old and she won't touch them. That's ok...it leaves more for me and Kelly Jo!

Announcing Live Recording 10/15/10

Saturday we went to Riverdale to meet with Bro. Chuck Spencer and Bro. Dale Spencer to have our first practice with them. Last night (Monday) we went back for our second practice. What are we practicing for? We are practicing for our Live Recording that is scheduled to take place October 15, 2010. That's right, we are stepping off into the deep end and attempting to record a live project for the first time. The folks at Riverdale have recorded several live projects including many from their choir, the Davis family and the Millikin family as well. They are experienced in this sort of thing. However this will be brand new territory for us.

Through the years we have had many requests for a live project but we could not imagine doing it. When Bro. Chuck Spencer mentioned last year about us recording live at their church we told him we could never do it but he told us we should try so here we are. We are very excited and very nervous about the whole process but we are committed to working hard to do the very best we can. Practices with Bro. Chuck and Bro. Dale have went very well so we are feeling better about it. They are super talented musicians so that helps Kelly Jo very much. And Yes, Kelly Jo will be playing the piano on this recording. I know that will make some of you happy because many of you have why she hasn't played on all of our recordings.

The current song list includes three songs we have recorded previously, several songs we have been singing the last year or so and a few more. It will all be taking place on Friday October 15th at Riverdale Assembly in Riverdale, California. Everyone is invited to attend and we would love to pack the church out and "have church" that night. Some of our friends are making plans to fly out and we would love for you to do the same. Let us know if you are even thinking about coming and we will give you information about the nearest airports and hotels.

Please pray for all three of us between now and then that all of the necessary pieces will fall into place. Please pray for our health and the strength of our voices. Seriously pray because we need to be in tip top shape that night. I know that God can help us and we depending on His strength.

Later, we plan to post information on how to pre-order the live CD at a discounted rate. That will help us with many of the upfront costs of recording and producing the project. God bless you all and thanks for praying for us.

Weekend

We had a fun filled weekend with several stops and visits with lots of friends and of course some good food.

We will start with Friday. After finishing revival at Riverdale Christian Academy we went to lunch at Tahoe Joe's with Pastor Charles Spencer and his wife and Pastor Doug Spencer and his wife. The food was great (Forgot to take pictures) and the fellowship was too.

We hurried home and Kelly Jo and I went to Raisin City for revival that night. Bro. Doug Cornett was in revival with Pastor Denver Wood and his folks there. Raisin City is the first church I ever preached in on our first visit to California in 1992.

We capped the night off at InNOut and it hit the spot as usual. The first two pictures are from there on Friday night.

We spent the day on Sunday with our friends at Gospel Defenders in Merced. Pastor Johnny Hilton and his folks rolled out the red carpet for us as usual. We praise God for his help and the good response in the altar Sunday night.

Sunday afternoon Bro. Milton Teaney and his wife treated us to Pizza Villa in Merced and it was terrific. We were all so hungry that we forgot pictures again but we did snap a picture of one lonely piece of pizza. Bro Milton also gave Kelly Jo a gift to add to her collection of creepy, crawly and slimy things. She has already had lots of fun.

After church Sunday night Bro. David and Sis. Peggy Hilton had us over for a beautiful meal. I say beautiful because the way she presents everything, it is almost too pretty to eat. But since I have experienced her cooking I jumped right in because I know it tastes even better than it looks. Wow! I was not disappointed.

That pretty much wraps up our weekend except for Saturday. I will save Saturday for my next post.

Have a good day.

School Revival

School revival went very well at Riverdale Christian Academy this week. The students responded in the altars each day and several were touched by the Spirit of the Lord. I am always thrilled to preach in schools and this week was no exception. When Bro. Chuck Spencer called I jumped at the chance to go. I love to see God work in the lives of young folks who are hungry and He sure did the last few days.

We will try to have a post up tomorrow detailing the events of this weekend.
God bless you all.

Monterey, California

Today (Saturday) we rode over to the coast with Pastor Anthony, Sis. Rose, Bro. Tito and Sis. Robin. We spent most of the time on the wharf in Monterey enjoying good food, beautiful sunshine and lots of laughs! Here we are enjoying our first meal of the day on the way over in Los Banos at Denny's.

We ate, walked around, ate, laughed, ate, took a boat ride, ate, drove down by the ocean, ate and generally had a tremendous time.

Here's a picture of Sis. Rose during our second meal. She is eating a wonderful Italian dish. It was so good!

We took a 30 minute ride on a boat to see the Sea Lions, Sea Otters and thousands of Jellyfish. As we walked down to the boat they really cautioned us to watch our heads on the low beam before boarding the boat. Kelly Jo looked every where for the low beam but she never did find it!

Here's the glass bottom boat we sailed on...

Next we found great seafood restaurant right there on the wharf for our third meal of the day. Love that fresh seafood!

Then we drove the 17 mile road that leads through the Pebble Beach Community. It was a gorgeous drive with plenty of ocean views and nice big gated houses.

We headed back to Fresno but not without out another stop in Los Banos at Carl's Jr for our last meal of the day. Well, that is if you don't count the ice cream cones from Dairy Queen right before we arrived back home! I forgot to take pictures of those two so you will have to take my word for it... lol

It was a great day with the Munoz clan! Hope you had a great Saturday as well. God Bless you all.
