Nigeria Update #7 - Wednesday 12/5/12

Update #7
We were not able to post from Nigeria as we had planned. This is an update that I wrote while there. Please scroll down for additional updates or see a list of Recent Posts to the left.

7:00 AM
Same song 5th verse. Awake around 3:00 AM again this morning.

The positive side is that I have plenty of time for prayer and sermon preparation. Kelly Jo is awake too. I know she is praying. Maybe she is preparing sermons too.

We have no services scheduled today. Bro. Shobanke will pick us up about 3:00 PM. I want him to show Bro. Lockwood some of the sites around Abeokuta that he has not seen in our trips to the various churches.

We also plan to walk along the streets some and stop by for another visit to Chicken Republic.

Tomorrow (Thursday) we begin the Ministers Conference at Bro. Shobanke's church. It is scheduled to run from 11-3 with two services in that time frame.

I will preach once in the first service each day and then two sermons in the afternoon service. At least that is the plan right now. There is no telling what God might do.

For those praying for specific services, the conference will be services #7-#12. IF previous years are any indication we should have 200-300 ministers and church workers in attendance from all kinds of churches.

10:00 PM
We had lunch in the hotel today.

Then Bro. Shobanke picked us up and we had a great afternoon with him. We visited Olumo Rock and climbed the steps most of the way up.

The city of Abeokuta sprung up around Olumo Rock because it was a natural defense from invading tribes. It is huge and has an interesting history.

We had a nice relaxing evening at the hotel. Bro. Lockwood and I visited with several of the staff for a while.   Here are a few pictures of some of the hotel staff on various days.

Everyone is always interested in the USA and we are interested in the Nigerian culture as well. One of the young men was trying to teach us some Yoruba but I am afraid I was not a very good student.

That's it for today. God bless you all.

Davy
