Wild Game Supper - Ellisville, Mississippi

Make sure you read the update on Bro. Marty Millikin from yesterday.

Friday we made the short trip to Ellisville, parked the BoggsMobile and worked on our appetites for the Wild Game Supper. The event was a fund raiser for the Christian school at First Assembly and it was a great success. The weather was rainy and very stormy but the people came anyway. The tables were loaded down with all sorts of wild game and lots of other food and everybody had plenty to choose from.

Everything I ate was very good. Some folks refuse to eat anything wild but nothing tasted or smelled bad or wild at all. Two of the new foods that I tried were beaver and nutria. I will let you Google nutria for yourself. It was fine and tasted like chicken, of course.

We have had alligator several times but it has never been as good as the first time when John Brown fried it for us fresh in Florida in 1993. Last night it was that good or better. I could not keep my hands out of it as they were frying it but the grilled was excellent too.

Pastor Kenny Morris, Andy Stringfellow the school administrator and many of the folks worked so hard to put on this supper. The men have been hunting and trapping and several men and women cooked all day Friday. All their hard work paid off. I would say it was a great success.

I appreciate them inviting us to be here for it and I am glad we could arrange it. We had great food and wonderful fellowship too. Odie stayed in Richton and rode up to Ellisville with Bro. Scott and Sis. Kim. After the supper Bro. Scott carried all of my sound equipment into the church and had it all set up before I knew anything about it. All I had to do was sound check. Bro. Scott is a real "holy roadie!" Thanks Bro. Scott. You got me on that one!

We start revival Sunday morning so today is rest, visiting with friends and preparing for revival. I hope you enjoy the pictures. After you Google it, would you eat Nutria?

  1. They seriously were serving BORDER COLLIE! And Chihuahua! Man, all the other stuff looked good but I could never eat a cousin of Lassie. :)

  2. Haha! No, they were just messing with the folks with queasy stomachs. I think they got quite a few laughs out of that.

  3. Do you realize a nutria is considered to be a rodent? Yeah, as in, kind of like a rat...Glad it was for a good cause.

    1. Of course, that is why I wanted you to Google it!

Wikipedia says, "Nutria is a very lean, fibrous, protein-rich meat; in certain ways it is much better than beef, chicken and turkey for the human body. It is low in fat and cholesterol with the taste, texture, and appearance of rabbit or dark turkey meat according to a study published in the Journal of Food Science."

  4. I believe that the Border Collie and Chihuahua meat was catered from the local Chinese restaurant.
