Vintage View Vednesday The Oregon Pacific Coast 2005

I sure hope you are enjoying pictures of our accidental vacation in 2005. In case you missed it, we were supposed to be in revival for two weeks in Idaho, but it was canceled because of a death. We were on our way to preach revival in California so we spent two weeks seeing great sights and meeting wonderful people.

By the second week, we were in Oregon exploring the coast. We still have a ways to go, but here are the first five installments in case you missed them.

Accidental Vacation 2005 I Yellowstone National Park

Accidental Vacation 2005 II Grand Teton National Park

Accidental Vacation 2005 III More Grand Tetons and Yellowstone

Accidental Vacation 2005 IV Glacier National Park and The Metzger's

Accidental Vacation 2005 V Washington State

Oregon Coast

When we left Seattle we took the truck and trailer down the interstate into Oregon and about halfway into the state. At about Eugene, Oregon, we cut over to the coast to a small town named Florence. We had found a little parking lot type campground that had availability and we wanted to park there a few days and explore the coast of Oregon.

I think we rested there a day and then 101 the coastal highway north all the way to the top of Oregon. We stopped at a dozen or more overlooks and took our time getting up the coast. It began as an extremely overcast day as the pictures below will show you, but it was beautiful nonetheless.

Our goal for the day besides exploring all of the beautiful coastline was to visit Fort Clatsop. This was the winter home of the Lewis and Clark expedition at the mouth of the Columbia River and the Pacific Ocean in the winter of 1805-1806. It was really cool to explore that place 200 years later.

The encampment we visited and that you see in the pictures was reconstructed in 1955 and was destroyed by fire in October after we were there in June. They built a replacement fort in 2006.

After Fort Clatsop, we turned back south to trace our steps and return to the trailer in Florence. The sun came out with radiant brilliance and that slowed our progress south. We found ourselves stopping at many of the same scenic overlooks so that we could enjoy them in the sunshine and take new pictures.

It was an awesome day exploring from the central coast of Oregon all the way to the north and back again. After a day or two in Florence, we drove the truck and trailer down the southern Oregon Pacific coast. . I will have those pictures when we meet again for Vintage View Vednesday.

Thank you for joining us today.
