A Compliment I Can Accept

Please keep praying for Eugene Boggs

A Compliment I Can Accept
I preached my very first sermon over 37 years ago in August of 1983. I have heard a lot of things said about my preaching since then and not all of what I have heard was good. That is understandable because not all of my preaching was good. 😎

It is possible that some of my preaching was judged unfairly or completely misunderstood. On the other hand, it is highly probable that I have been applauded and appreciated for some preaching when I did not deserve it.

Friends can be way more kind than our efforts can justify. That is right and we know it.

In other words, I have deserved some of the criticism I received and I have not deserved some of the cheers. I should probably do a better job of accepting critique and deflecting compliments. After all, God deserves the glory for any good that is done, not me!

I wish I could live more by the adage I read recently. What other people say about me is really none of my business. Wow! There is truth in that.

Having said all of that, I recently received one of the best compliments to my preaching that I have ever been given. It came from this little man named Oliver.

Oliver said, I like that preacher. He preaches and then he quits.

I will take that! Thank you for noticing, Oliver. I have worked diligently for many years to boil my thoughts down to concise, bite-sized pieces, say it as efficiently as possible and then get out of the way and allow the Lord to work in the altar service.

My efforts have finally been noticed and noted. Thank you, Oliver! You have given me a compliment I can accept.

Thank you, friend, for reading Mile Markers today. I have written what I wanted to say and now I will quit.😍
