I told you last week that we arrived home in early February with a few bus things that needed attention. IF we are ever going to leave, some items must be crossed off the list. I told you about the door lock and now I will spin another tale for you. 🤣
When we arrived in Sweeney, Texas the third week of January, I noticed I had a small oil leak on the outside of the passenger side tag axle. Upon further investigation, I discovered the hub cover that holds in the gear oil, was leaking and needed to be replaced.
I ordered one from NAPA and had it sent to Bernice, Louisiana. As you may know, our revival in Bernice was canceled last minute due to our positive COVID tests. I called to let NAPA know I would not be there when the part arrived and I had one shipped to a NAPA near home.
I had the part in hand a few weeks ago, but last week time and opportunity met strength and gumption so I waded in.😁
The two front wheels and the other tag axle had already had the hub cover replaced in the past, but this one escaped notice until it began to leak. The replacement is a different type that matches the other three.
The old one removed.
The new one installed.
I am not very mechanical so I regret to inform you that it took a little longer to complete the project than the pictures suggest.😎
For my information in the future, the part number is 3434024 and I used this Permatex Aviation Form-A-Gasket to hold things in place as advised by Jeff Rowe.
The same day I did that, I also changed the oil and filter and fuel filter on the generator. All of those tasks I could do sitting on a folding chair, which I did.
Before I leave I will need to check the pressure in the tires and changed the batteries in the pressure sensors, then the BoggsMobile should be ready to roll.
Thank you for spending a few minutes with us today on Mile Markers.
