Happy 40 Years of Preaching

Hey Friends,

Happy Thursday, welcome to another post from Odie. I decided to step in and help Dad out with a post. Did you happen to see Dad's post he published on Tuesday? Check it out by clicking here.

This month, Dad marked a huge life milestone for him. He has been preaching for 40 years! Happy 40th preaching anniversary, Dad!

I wanted to take a moment to publicly say I am so proud of my Father. He is a true man of God and takes his calling seriously. Dad's main focus in life is winning the lost and helping people make it through life! I can wholeheartedly say my Dad does his job well!

I have not been around for the full 40 years, but I have been there for most of them. Through the good days and more challenging days, Dad has pressed on! He is a fighter and an overcomer!

Working right by him for over 20 years of his ministry has been a privilege. I have watched him in action firsthand. The size of the crowd has never bothered Dad. He ministers to 3 people or the masses. I have seen him be an instrument in the hand of God countless times in various methods! I am always amazed!

Dad has probably preached more sermons to me than any other preacher. God has used him to speak to my soul, challenge, teach, and encourage me! I love to hear my Daddy preach the word of God!

I have had the privilege of hearing my Dad preach hundreds of times for many years. I never get tired of hearing him. I absolutely love seeing Dad being used by God. It is an honor to get the front-row seat that I have to see the action!

I have proudly been a preacher's kid (PK) all my life. I have no sad song to sing about the PK's life. It truly has been a blessing and not a burden. Life has not been all roses or without bumps. Guess what, nobody has a trouble-free life. I am so grateful for my life!

Once again, Happy 40 years of preaching, Dad! Thanks for living your life for God! You have shown me how to live a good life by example. You have shown me that we can survive hardships! We can trust God to work things out for us! I have watched you help others just by being genuine and committed to God!

Thanks for reading!

A Word For Wednesday, Eight Commonalities In Every Man That God Uses

So glad you joined us today. It is time again for A Word For Wednesday. A few moments ago I posted A Word for Wednesday on our YouTube Channel. Please give it a listen and leave us a comment here or on YouTube.

In mid-July I posted A Word For Wednesday with excerpts from a book by Oswald J. Smith called The Man God Uses. He prayed on his 38th birthday and asked the Lord to make him and man after God's heart. That prayer changed his life and I believe it will change our lives too.

The second chapter is the title chapter. In that chapter, he discusses eight essential things that every man that God uses all have in common. It is good stuff.
1. The man that God uses is the man that has but one great purpose in life.
2. The man that God uses is the man that has removed every hindrance from his life.
3. The man that God uses is the man who has placed himself fully at God's disposal.
4. The man that God uses is the man who has learned to prevail in prayer.
5. The man that God uses is the man who is a student of God's Word.
6. The man that God uses is the man who is the man that has a vital living message for the lost world.
7. The man that God uses is the man of faith that expects results.
8. The man that God uses is the man that works in the anointing of the Holy Ghost

Thank you for stopping in.

I Ought To Be A Whole Lot Better!

We are nearing the end of August 2023 and I need to mark a milestone before August slips into September.

In August 1983 I talked to my Pastor at the time, Pastor John Lamb in Harveysburg. I had been working through something in my mind for quite a while and it was time to talk it over.

On Saturday night or Sunday night, I told Bro. Lamb that I was feeling like that maybe I was going to preach at some point. He talked a while and said, "No better way to find out than try. You are up Thursday night." I was halfway expecting him to say something like that, but I did not feel ready to do it.

We talked some more and by the time I left him that night, I was scheduled to preach my first sermon the following Thursday night. If I was scheduled to swim across the Ohio River, I do not think I could have felt any more nervous.

Thankfully, he did not announce it to the church and I am not sure I told anyone either.

I preached my first sermon on the Love of God from the Gospel of John. I had some scriptures scribbled down and a few main bullet points and I cried the whole time. We had a pretty good altar service and I remember being relieved and happy when the service ended.

The second sermon was preached a few weeks later from Ezekiel 33 about the Watchman. It also went pretty well and the people responded very well. I began to think I might be on to something.

The third time was an unmitigated disaster. I have no memory of my text or subject. I only remember that I stumbled and bumbled my way to a pitiful end. I learned a hard lesson.

I kept the notes of the first two efforts for several years. I had them with other sermon notes in a book that I laid on top of the car while loading the car after church in the mid-1990s. I drove off and left the book and never saw it again.

The book also had a page with important facts and dates, including the dates of my first sermons. I know the first time preaching was a Thursday night in August of 1983 and I think it was August 18. I could have been August 11, but I think 18.

Either way, it was 40 years ago this month that I preached my first sermon. I am thankful the first time was much better than the third time or I might have never tried again.

40 years is a long time to be doing anything. After thousands of sermons, I ought to be a whole lot better.

Thank you for stopping by today.

The Weekend Dispatch

Odie caught a ride home from Dryden Rd. Friday night after church, but we were parked there in the bus and spent the night. Saturday morning, I emptied the holding tanks, disconnected the utilities cranked the big Detroit Series 60 and hit the road.

We pulled into the Lazy OD Ranch a few minutes after 11, completing a very small circle of under 50 miles to Dryden Rd. and back. Thankfully, some days are easy.

KJo tackled the yard as we prepared for a whirlwind of activity the next few days. Saturday evening my parents took KJo and I to Outback and we enjoyed the food and fellowship tremendously. Odie was gone on an outing with friends but we all visited for a while later.

Sunday we drove to Bond, Kentucky to be in church with Pastor Kevin Lloyd and the Bond Holiness Church . We have a long history with the Bond church and we were so excited to be there with them.

The service was wonderful as we expected and Odie has some pictures for you now.

We drove home Sunday night and we were glad to see the lights of home come into view. Hallelujah!

That pretty much wraps up our weekend. Thank you for joining us.

Odie’s Indoor 2023 Notes

Hey Friends,

This is Odie reporting in from Ohio. Indoor wrapped up last night at DRPC. Just a few days ago, we were preparing for this meeting. Now, Indoor 2023 is history. They say time flies when you are having fun.

Well, we had a lot of fun during this fantastic week. We worshiped the Lord and received food for our souls. The word of God spoke to our hearts, challenged us, and encouraged us. The fellowship with new and old friends was fantastic!

The Saturday after the meeting every year, I am worn out physically from a long and action packed week. I am also rejuvenated in my spirit. God always amazes me with the powerful services we get to experience!

I am so thankful for DRPC Indoor 2023. The Lord was good to our family this week. We will be feasting on these services for a while. God's power is incredible! I am blessed to experience God so near to me in special times!

You can listen to the services here on the DRPC-AUDIO Mixlr channel. If you are logged into your free Mixlr account, the meeting archive can be found under recordings on the DRPC-AUDIO channel.

Below are my notes from all the services of the meeting and then pictures from Friday. I hope you enjoy just a glimpse of our week.
