Bus Barn Work

I mentioned a couple of weeks ago that Bro Jared Burris was here doing some work in the barn. He was back last week for a partial day to finish the last project and now I have a few pictures and a description of his work.

I think I mentioned earlier that our bus barn is a post-frame type construction and built in 1982. In many ways, it was built very well, but for some reason the trusses would never braced properly.

When I was putting in the overhead door a couple of years ago, I was overwhelmed by how easy it was to move the top of the building back-and-forth. One of the projects was to remedy that and strengthen the building.

I had already strengthened it some when I  covered the inside of the east wall with sawmill lumber.

Bro Jared took care of the rest.

I had a bit of lumber left from the concrete forms on Odie’s porches and he used some of that down the center of the trusses. I need that walkway for the future anyway. then he used 2x4s from the ends down to the center for additional bracing.

Eventually, I would like to cover the ceiling and insulate it. The trusses are four feet apart. Once the ceiling is covered we will need the walkway to insulate or do any work up there.

Previously, there were 2x4s us down the center, but they were mostly only nailed at the ends and did not brace much.

I saved the red metal from the old sliding doors that I removed when we installed the overhead door. Jared used that and some leftover metal trim that I had to trim around the outside of the overhead door. It now looks great.

The last project was putting metal on the ceiling of a small room inside the barn. We chose mini-corrugated metal for that.

We are glad to get these projects completed and I appreciate Bro Jared taking time to do the work.

Thank you for stopping by today.
