Rebuilding Roadrunner RV Park

Last week we parked at Roadrunner RV Park in Oklahoma City. We have stayed there many times through the years while preaching at various churches in the area and when passing through. 

It was always a nice park, but they only had a few spots we could wiggle in. I think we parked in the exact same spot every time we parked there in the BoggsMobile.

Roadrunner RV park took a direct hit from a tornado in 2015. This is our first visit since the park was destroyed by the tornado. It was horrific and a miracle that no one was killed.

I wrote about the destruction from the tornado then and posted some other pictures that we found online. It was terrible for us to see the pictures of a place we had slept so many nights. Obviously it was even worse to be there. The RVs were tossed about like rag dolls. 

Since the storm they have expanded by over 50 spaces. I did not realize until I talked to some of the folks in management, that the expansion was already underway before they were devastated by the tornado.

It was a tremendously trying time for the park. They were in the middle of investing a lot of money to expand and then their incoming revenue was completely stopped!

The remains of RVs were scattered everywhere and RV owners were waiting on word from insurance companies. It was weeks before the clean up could be finished. The park could not rent any of the spaces so all they had was money going out and nothing coming in.

Thankfully they survived the tornado and the financial storm that followed. The original section looks great and the new section looks even better. I would love for some of the turns to be bigger, but they were working within a limited area and it is very good.

We were assigned a spot in the new section. There are several pull through sites in the new part and I am pretty sure we can fit in most of them. Here is a map of the park now. The park circled in red is the new section.

The two rows of pull thru sites circled in blue would have the front end of the bus pointed downhill. That works best for us. The middle section of pull thru spots has the front end running up hill slightly. I put a black line through those.

They also have a few underground storm shelters. They may have had them before, but it is evident they have them now. I think the storm that blew through Friday night had several of us thinking about trying out the shelters.

It was nice to be back at Roadrunner in OKC and very nice to see the expansion for ourselves. We have plans to be in Midwest City later in the year and we will probably stay at RoadRunner again then.

We are having a great time in Wichita this week. I am off to preach my first service at the country jail this morning. The services at the jail are a regular part of our annual trip here and I always look forward to it.

Part I - Pictures from Carter Caves State Park

We have had a fun and exhausting week at Carter Caves State Park near Olive Hill, Kentucky. It had been five years since we came to the Boggs Family Reunion and we were excited to be able to make it this year. It was great visiting with everyone, sitting around the campfire, preparing and sharing meals and getting to know some of our extended family better. Having most of my immediate family here too was icing on the cake.

It was a special treat to minister in three churches in the area while we were here as well. I have prayed for years that God would open up doors of opportunity for us among our families and he has answered that in a big way this week. The Boggs family has opened their hearts to us and welcomed us with open arms. I am very thankful to them and to God that orchestrated it all. I have a sneaking suspicion that God is not finished yet.

We only took a "few" hundred pictures the last several days. I will have to spread them out over the next few days so that I do not gum up the servers at Google. They will not all be in order but I will try insert some descriptions now and then so you know what you are seeing.

We plan to leave this area later this morning. It is about 360 miles to our next revival and we begin services tomorrow evening. Thanks for reading and God bless everyone of you.

Kelly Jo and I walked (Hiked might be too strong of a word) some of the beautiful trails in Carter Caves State Park. Very little of their trails are smooth, super easy or level so we took our time and enjoyed the view. Some days we walked by ourselves and other days we had various combinations of family members. The first day we walked to one of several natural bridges in the park.

We were climbing the steep stairs to the top of the bridge when I bent over to move a limb from the steps. The other end of the limb was in a brush pile about 6 feet away. When I moved it I startled a doe that was also in the brush pile. She startled me too!

She ran about 25 feet away and Kelly Jo took a few pictures.
