A Return To Katz

I know that many of you have been eagerly awaiting pictures from our return to Katz Deli Express north of Houston, Texas! It is time to get the show on the road!

We thought we were returning to Katz Deli Express, but about three years ago the owners converted it to a full fledged Katz Deli. That means it was remodeled inside, the menu was greatly expanded, they have table service AND it now stays open 24 hours a day!

This one is at
19075 I-45 North (exit 77)
Shenandoah, TX

Of course, the expanded menu meant nothing to us last Thursday, we were there for one thing and one thing only. Yes, that is right, we only had eyes for Reuben.

KJo and Odie went smallish and I went big, New York size! You might as well go big or go home!

My New York size Reuben was smaller than it was when we visited 6 years ago. My brother Steve summed it up well in German, Shrankabitz!

It was leaning and collapsing a bit, so that makes it look even smaller than it is, but it was remarkably smaller than the one I ate on our first visit. This next picture with the fork for reference was last Thursday.

This one with a fork for reference was in October 2013.

Wow! Do you see the difference?

But, even though the sandwich had Shrankabitz, it was as delicious as ever. It has been over 5 years since I ate any kind of sandwich with real bread, so I am prepared to say, the Reuben I ate last Thursday is the best sandwich I ever remember eating!

Hallelujah, It was super great!

We enjoyed Katz Deli with Pastor Goodwin, Bro. Lucas and Sis. Amy. For some reason, Bro. Goodwin escaped without any evidence that he was there.

We appreciate Bro. Lucas and Sis. Amy for driving us over and treating us to lunch!

Our second trip to Katz Deli will long stand in our memory as a wonderful day and terrific food! Wow! If you ever get a chance to go, do it! Yes, it is that good! If you do not like Reuben, never fear, there is so much there to choose from, I know you will love it!

Thank you for reading today.

Katz Deli!

I am reposting this from our first and only visit to Katz Deli north of Houston. This was originally posted in October 2013. At the bottom of the post, I will tell you why I am posting it again if you have not figured it out by then.

Katz Deli - Houston, Texas

We have been eyeing this place and their monster Reuben sandwiches for a long time. When Pastor Don Goodwin asked me to come for revival over a year ago, I instantly decided it was the right thing to do since it was close to this heavenly Reuben.

We decided to try for Odie's early Birthday celebration Tuesday evening after our day long visit to the Prevost shop. Wow! What a sandwich! What a great way to cap off a stressful day! They have about 10 more sandwiches that I would like to try but I do not know if I could ever pass up the Reuben.

Yes, it was that good. We like our sauerkraut without sugar and this Reuben was great even though the sauerkraut was slightly sweet. A person should not do that to good kraut but Reuben was awesome anyway. You can order it with a combination of four different meats but the pastrami was the best hands down in my opinion.

Kelly Jo and I love horseradish on our Reuben so she took a little bottle of chopped horseradish to spice things up. It was the perfect complement to a near perfect sandwich.

This is a monster Reuben!

Odie is giving her approval on a great birthday meal!

Kelly Jo and Odie ordered the mid-sized Reuben and I ordered the New York size. That is the big one. It was definitely big but it was no kind of step for a stepper like me. It was pretty pricey but it was Odie's birthday so it was absolutely worth it.

If you ever get near Houston, Texas you should try it.

Have you figured my reasoning for posting this again today?

Oh yeah! We are finally going back to Katz for our second visit after nearly 6 years and 4 months! Pastor Goodwin has some business to take care of close to there this afternoon, so he suggested going to Katz for lunch today.

We had to think about it for at least two seconds before we acquiesced to the Pastor's wishes and said we would go. We are supposed to leave here by 10:00 AM this morning and we should be pulling into Katz about 11:00. We should have some more great pictures that will rival the ones above. Yay!

Thank you for reading today. Make sure you tune in tomorrow!

Foodie Friday Katz Deli

Hey Friends,

Welcome to another edition of Foodie Friday. Today, we are featuring a family favorite restaurant: Katz Deli in Texas. We first tasted its goodness in October 2013. We love their Reuben sandwich.

Dad and I were always planning our next stop at Katz! We were supposed to be going in this spring. Our previous trips in 2013 and 2020 were documented here on the blog! Click here to see those posts!

Here is something Dad wrote about Katz in October 2013. It is absolutely true, and we still laugh about it.

"We have been eyeing this place and their monster Reuben sandwiches for a long time. When Bro. Goodwin asked me to come for revival I instantly decided it was the right thing to do since it was close to this heavenly Reuben."

Last month, we went to the Houston, Texas area for business. Steve and Karen joined us for the trip. I knew Katz was a must on our to-do list. Dad always wanted Uncle Steve to try a Katz Reuben, too!

Mom, me, Steve, Karen and Bro. Don Goodwin had a wonderful lunch at Katz! It was so good to be there with family and friends! We did a lot of reminiscing about good times with Dad!

Below are the pictures we took of our lunches. I am hungry just looking at these!

Stuffed cheesy potatoes were amazing!

I loved having Uncle Steve with me at Katz! I am so thankful for my Uncle Steve!

Thanks for stopping by to visit with us. See you tomorrow!
