Flooring Revenge

This is a longish post with lots of pictures. I hope it does not cause brain fatigue. It is exciting for us and we want to share with you.

It is time for a recap of last week's flooring install by Pastor Phillip Deane, Pastor Eddie Deane and Bro. Jordan Deane, aka Dr. Phil, Deacon Eddie and Digger Jordan. But before I get into that, let me tell you a little story.

This is a story of revenge. In March of 2009 at Allentown Fellowship Meeting, Dr. Phil came on the bus to visit a few minutes. We had owned the bus for a year and we had wanted to replace the 12-13 year old carpet from day one. It was dirty, worn and ugly, although it is probably one of the reasons the bus would not sell and the price came down to our level.

We were asking Dr. Phil what he recommended and he told us about gluing down engineered hardwood. I asked around the bus community and sure enough, that was their recommendation too. Dr. Phil told us about a big sale in Mobile. He told us to order it but have it shipped to the store in Charlottesville, Virginia.

Why Virginia? Dr. Phil knew we were preaching there in the summer so he volunteered his brother, Eddie Deane, to help him install the floor while we were there.

Sure enough, we showed up, preached revival for their Daddy, Bro. Buzzy Deane and laughed ourselves silly through the whole week while the BoggsMobile was transformed. It was a memorable week orchestrated by Dr. Phillip Deane!

When Bro. Eddie Deane found out we were building a house for Odie to live in, a plan for revenge began to form in his mind. He told Odie and I that when we were ready for flooring, he would come to Ohio and lay it. Here is the revenge. He also volunteered Dr. Phil to drive all the way from Florida to help him install the floor.

Sure enough, they showed up and we laughed ourselves silly through the whole week while the house was transformed. It was a memorable week orchestrated by Deacon Eddie Dean!

They may have gotten more than they bargained for this time. I have mentioned before, that because of an unexpected hot south wind and an extra finisher that could not make it to the job, the concrete nearly got away from our finisher. It was a bad day for him and has translated into some bad days for us. It ultimately became a week of bad days for the Deanes.

They worked for many, many hours on leveling the floor with more gallons of material than I could count. More often than not, they would level a large area, let it dry and only then could they see more areas that needed to be brought up to snuff. It was a tedious process.

They arrived Monday evening and worked several hours on the main room. Here is the first leveler patch going down.

Tuesday morning they scraped the rough edges, cleaned again, applied some glue and were off to the races.

This is the first piece of flooring going down in the house. It is in the northwest corner of the living room.

Let me tell you about the flooring. It is vinyl plank glue down flooring by Beau Flor. It is a commercial quality floor good for residential or commercial applications.

We originally planned to go with a floor that clicked together but thankfully we found out it is not really compatible with power wheel chair use. Odie had to start her search again and wound up with this Beau Flor product and color with the help of Bro. Jeff Ward.

Bro. Jeff is from our home church and works for Greater Dayton Construction. He has relationships with many distributors and found one that gave us a tremendous discount. I am not sure if I am supposed to mention the company's name but we appreciate their extreme generosity. We appreciate Bro. Jeff Ward too.

It was not long before the floor began to take shape. It was time for a selfie.

Once they reached a certain point, Dr. Phil and Jordan worked on finishing the room and Deacon Eddie began leveling in the next area to be installed. The patch material needed time to dry, especially when it needed to be put down extra thick.

I took these pictures early Wednesday morning showing Tuesday's progress.

Back to work Wednesday.

Lunch Wednesday with everyone including Bro. and Sis. Sutherland.

Making progress.

Wore out Wednesday evening.

It was a brutally cold week at times.

Here is the finished product Friday.

Dr. Phil, Deacon Eddie and Jordon relaxing on the new floor before their drive home Friday.

We do not even know how to say thank you properly to these men for coming so far, working so hard and giving so much. Our prayer for them is the same as it is for the others that have made this house possible.

We pray sincerely that God blesses them with health, strength, peace, good work and favor in every area of their lives. We have received several reports that God is answering those prayers and we believe He will for Pastor Phillip Deane, Pastor Eddie Deane and Bro. Jordan Deane. Thank you brothers.

Thank you for reading today.
