My Days Are Swifter Than A Weaver's Shuttle December 31, 2019

The year of 2019 has disappeared! Swoosh, swoosh, swoosh and it is gone, faster than a weaver's shuttle.

On the last day of 2018 we were traveling in the BoggsMobile from Hodgenville, Kentucky to Harrison, Indian to preach the Watch Night Service for Pastor Wade Hicks at West Harrison Pentecostal Church. My brother Steve and his wife Karen were traveling with us that weekend and it seems like it was only a week or two ago. Wow! How does that happen?

I know that we have driven a bunch of miles since December 31, 2018. We have been in a lot of states, preached in a gob of churches and experienced way more trouble than we wanted and way more joy than we could have imagined, but how in the world did it go by so fast?

Only a few days ago, it seems, we were setting up our sound equipment at West Harrison, eating lunch with Steve and Karen and then having a wonderful evening of church and fellowship with Bro. Hicks and all of our friends. We gathered to pray the old year out and the New Year in, but I do not remember asking the Lord to let 2019 fly by like a bolt of lightning.

Swoosh! It was here today and it will be gone tomorrow!

While the year was flying by, we witnessed and personally enjoyed many, many, many wonderful blessings from the Lord. In the flash that was 2019, we beheld God saving people, healing families, encouraging Pastors, loving on churches and working the miraculous in the lives of others and in our own lives.

Even during the uncertain and troubling times of 2019, God's hand was working behind the scenes to bring us through.

We experienced two major bus breakdowns within 30 days. Later Odie was in a horrible car accident and the Green Machine broke down too. In fact, the Green Machine spent time in three different repair shops in three different states for three different problems.

We have cried with friends as they laid loved ones to rest and we have prayed for a multitude of friends that have walked through various difficult situations in 2019.

Through every test and trial in the last 365 days, God has been faithful, God has been present and God has been powerful! It has been an amazing year. It has flown by incredibly fast, but we have made it to this point by the grace of God!

I read an opinion years ago about why it seems time gets faster as we go. It makes sense to me.

When we are young, waiting for another Christmas to come or for summer to roll around, it seems like forever. In our young lives, it really is forever. When we are ten years old, a year is a full tenth of our lives, even more, if you consider that you do not remember much about the first three or four years.

The year between December 31, 2018 and December 31, 2019 is less than 1/52 of my life. For a 75 year old man, a year is only 1/75 of his life. Spaces of time seem shorter and moving faster, because they are an increasingly smaller portion of our entire lives.

If that is part of the reason time is flying by, then it will certainly get faster and faster, because one thing is for sure, we are not fixing to start our years over. I will never be ten again and I am kind of happy about that. I was so stupid as a teenager and I do not want to go back through all of that mess again.

I have now lived out well over 52 years. As a youth 1/52 of my year was a week. Now, 1/52 of my whole life is a year. No wonder years go by and it feels like a week. Yep, time is flying. However, I am content to live my years as God gives them, even though they seem more like weeks in length.

In a week or so I will sit down at my computer and tell you about some of the joys and sorrows of the 12 months, 52 weeks and 365+ days that made up 2020. The year will be gone and we will be entering 2021 if God permits.

Think about this. Is time really all that important? It is the focus of this post, it is the focus of our watches, our clocks, our calendars and it is the focus of most of what we do. My mind is consumed almost entirely by time. It is the way my brain is wired. What time is it? How much time is left? Are we ready to leave on time? Will we arrive on time?

Slow down a moment, Davy. What is more important, time or eternity? We know the answer to that, right?

Let us live for God this year, for soon time will be no more. I am determined to live those fast disappearing days in service to God and to His people. I can think of no better way to experience time than by focusing on eternity.

Thank you for reading.
