We evangelized two years and eight months in the early 90s. We have been on the road for over nineteen years this time. In our years of traveling, we have stayed in a variety of places while preaching revivals. We have stayed in homes, basements, Sunday School rooms, evangelist quarters, parsonages, motels, hotels and a few places we have purposely forgotten.
We have lived in four different RVs. The first three were fifth wheels. First was a 1979 Holiday Ramblette, then a 1984 Hitchhiker and finally a 2004 Newmar Kountry Star. The fourth RV is the 1995/96 Prevost XL Vantare bus that we currently call the BoggsMobile.
There are times when we have been in the bus for months on end that we move into a hotel for two or three days in between revivals. It is usually a welcome break. We did that two or three times last year while I was recovering from COVID.
There is one thing we have never done in nearly 14 years of traveling on the bus. We have never moved out of the bus to stay in an evangelist quarters or parsonage during revival. Odie often does that, but KJo and I have never, until now.
White Plains has a parsonage attached to the church. We have stayed in it a few times when we did not have the bus. However, when we have the bus, we much prefer to stay in the bus. It is home.
We have stayed in several hotels and evangelist quarters over the last 14 years when we have flown to a meeting or if the bus was in the shop or unavailable for some reason.
Last week, KJo wanted to do some deep cleaning in the bus and Odie was needing to clean her bunk area too. That is much easier if I am not constantly taking up half the available square footage.
So Saturday we did something we had never done before. We moved out of the bus and into the parsonage for the duration of revival, even though the bus was parked right outside. We stayed from Saturday morning until we left for Alabama on Friday morning.
We enjoyed the extra space. I had the choice of two recliners and plenty of room to spread out my materials when I was reading or preparing for preaching. There was also a kingsize bed to sleep in. We really, really enjoyed it. It is so nice of our White Plains friends to make the parsonage available to us.
KJo and I enjoyed the week in new surroundings, but we were very happy to move back into the bus. Like I said, it is home. It took us 14 years to try it and it may take 14 years to try it again.
Thank you for stopping in for a few minutes today.
