The Landress Family

Bro. Larry Landress, his wife Sis. Rosemary, their daughter Sis. Rebecca and son in law Bro. Jeffery Blankenship and their daughters all came down to revival in Keller, Texas Monday night. It was a real treat and blessing to have them. The Landress family have been our very good friends for many years and we don't get to see them near often enough.

Bro. Larry and Sis. Rosemary have labored as missionaries to Mexico and beyond for over 20 years and Bro. Jeffery, Sis. Rebecca, Madeline and Andrea have recently joined them on the field. They are doing a great job in reaching people in several parts of Mexico for Christ. We believe in their ministry and whole heartedly recommend them for support.

They arrived a little early for church and we really enjoyed visiting with the whole family. As you can see in the pictures my new hat was very popular.

Revival services have been good so far. Keep praying for us.

San Diego Zoo From Odie's View

Dad already told you about our trip to the San Diego Zoo. He also shared with you pics from his phone. Today I wanted to post some of the good pics from my camera.

You can get a better view of my encounter with the Cheetah. It really spooked me! I thought it may have been my hat or chair he didn't like. Sis. Rosemary Landress said he probably sensed my weakness.

I really was afraid when at Sea Lion show they brought my Cheetah "friend" out on just a leash! I know she saw me. Her dog companion was also there with her. The dog did it's job well, keeping the cheetah calm.

The Sea Lion show was interesting! It was very well trained and entertaining. A little girl helped them some in the show. She was a brave girl, doing everything they asked her to do.

We saw Mom's best friend at the zoo, the Grizzly Bear. This Grizzly was a black one. I think Mom was happy just seeing him in passing on our bus tour. LOL

The other shots are just various animals. It was a good day!!!

Basil Metabolic Rate/Weight-loss Made Easy?

The Twinkie diet spurred some thought.  Kelly Jo found a website that is interesting.  You can click on the title of this post to find out more but this post pretty much sums it up.

Have you ever heard of BMR (Basal Metabolic Rate)? Basically it tells you the number of calories you can eat each day to maintain your present weight. If you know your BMR then you can eat fewer calories and lose weight or eat more calories and gain weight.  The equation to find your BMR is below...

Body Weight [lb] x 15 + (moderate activity [mins/day] x 3.5)

If you wish to lose weight then you must eat less than your BMR each day.  Each person burns calories at a different rate but according to the website if the average person eats 500 less calories than his/her BMR per day they will lose one pound per week.

Lets plug in some actual numbers.

We will use the average ordinary 350 lb man who exercises moderately for 10 minutes each day.

350 lbs. (Body Weight) x 15.  That equals 5250.

Add to that 10 minutes of moderate activity per day x 3.5.  That equals 35.

So 5250 + 35=5285

According to this the average ordinary 350 lb man who exercises moderately for 10 minutes each day needs to eat 5285 calories a day to maintain his weight!

So if he eats 500 less calories per day he can lose one pound a week.

A 350 lb man can eat 4785 calories a day and lose 52 pounds a year?

That's THREE TRIPLE Whoppers with CHEESE everyday and 1095 calories left over for vegetables like French Fries!

Go figure! Who knew it was so easy?
